JustCo Central Plaza: A Modern Workspace That Pays Homage to Singaporean Heritage and Culture
JustCo Central Plaza - Coworking space in Tiong Bahru
From the brick-red tiled wall and Art-deco curved windows that frames the blue skies, the modern yet cosy interiors at JustCo Central Plaza is not only inviting but makes one feel right at home, truly.
Welcome to my first blog post on WorkSlayChill, a pet project that has been simmering for quite a while now. While this site is still in beta, there is no better time to unleash my civic spirit than on the 9th of August (Happy 58th, Singapore!) which also happens to be International Coworking Day. 🥳
Unveiled in May 2023, this coworking space located on level 5 of Central Plaza, has got to be one of my most preferred, firstly because it is such a convenient commute (Tiong Bahru MRT) from my house. Not to mention the abundant food choices in the neighbourhood. But wait, I digress.
What got me excited about JustCo Central Plaza is its one-of-a-kind heritage-influenced interior design that blends both traditional and contemporary elements. The moment you enter the space, you are greeted by a brick-red tiled wall. Inspired by the fair-faced brickwork feature of many heritage houses in Tiong Bahru, this wall offers a hint of nostalgia and immediately welcomes you to explore the space.
Old-school chess table and stool at collaboration area in JustCo Central Plaza
The next thing that caught my eye is the large, quaint, tiled table. It is a rendition of the old-school chess table and stool that you can find at HDB void decks. I’ve never really thought about it but it is such an iconic Singaporean cultural symbol. It’s also a clever way to imply that this is where you ‘lepak’ (meaning ‘chill’ in Malay, or as you call it now - collaborate) like how I used to hang out with friends at the void deck after school, back in the days.
As a member at JustCo, one of the perks is the free-flow fuel of what gets you through the work day - coffee! The brew at JustCo is by Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee, another household brand to celebrate at this locally-inspired workspace. I was also pleasantly delighted to find iced-gem biscuits here, a classic treat and the perfect pairing with my super-gao cup of espresso.

A typical work day for me starts with picking a zone that fits my mood. As a hot-desker (puns intended, lol), I get to choose if I would like to park myself at the cushioned corner (my favourite), or the designated hotdesking area. Either way, this main hall is spacious and with plenty of natural light, feels airy and is especially pretty when you get to gaze out of the large windows to purposefully daydream (more about that in my next post).
Airy and spacious coworking space with collaboration areas and hot desk zones.
JustCo Central Plaza hot desk zone with convenient electrical outlets for your devices. There are also lockers you can rent to safely store your belongings.
My favourite corner. Also a hot favourite with the other hot deskers so I would advise to come early to ‘chope’ your seats as its all first-come-first served.
There’s many more local vintage influences you can find around the centre but I won’t spoil the fun and let you explore it when you come visit. Drop me a note if you’re popping by JustCo Central Plaza and we can 'lepak' over a cup of Tiong Hoe.
Happy National Day 🇸🇬 and Happy International Coworking Day everyone! 🥳
Cheers! Ira
