Exhibition: Kilim Moments

A passion project inspired by my road trip around Turkey. The showcase which consists of 4 kilim-inspired prints, attained the Best of Show award at NOISE Festival, organized by National Arts Council (NAC) Singapore.

The patterns were inspired by the Turkish traditional art of kilim weaving. Pixel art and geometric design was infused into the design to inject a contemporary twist.

Traditionally, kilim motifs are derived from symbols that were used in ancient times to communicate and convey messages. I would imagine an art piece with these motifs to tell hidden stories, secret messages interwoven like poetry.

The motifs used in these artworks are purely decorative and for aesthetic purpose but always open to interpretation based on individual experiences.

The colors symbolise the hues of nature - the cool tones of the Bosphorus, the warmth of Turkish summer, the vast tea plantations in Rize and it’s golden sunsets.
